DigitalOcean Cloud Hosting is cost-effective but chic.
DigitalOcean is a fairly new player in the hosting world. This might be one of the reasons why they have such a great offering. DigitalOcean meets the needs of small to medium websites easily thanks to the incredibly hardware features and equally incredible prices. Newbies to the cloud can maximise their experience by putting DigitalOcean’s expertise to use.
Even the cheapest cloud server, which is $5 per month will include an SSD hard drive, which makes a cloud work very rapidly indeed. User-friendly control panels and flexible APIs are just two features that make working with DigitalOcean a wholly positive experience.
Why Choose DigitalOcean Cloud Hosting?
- Opt for monthly or hourly hosting
- SSD with every cloud
- Amazing bandwidth features
- 55 second server deployment
- Flexible API
- Uptime & Reliability
- Perfect uptime and great security features
As DigitalOcean is the newbie on the market, there isn’t much data regarding uptime systems and stability in their clouds. The data you can see boasts a 100% uptime so far, almost unbelievable, so it’s advised to keep checking in on this over the upcoming months. They offer an SLA of 99.99% uptime, which is generally the standard.
DigitalOcean gives a good number of security features which enable stable cloud performance which includes nightly server backups. Another great way to protect data is to take them up on their server snapshots. The redundancy and capacity of the DigitalOcean clouds are ensured by tier1 networks and 10GB e-connections.
Great specifications for a low-cost
If you discount the low costs you see for DigitalOcean’s servers, the image of their clouds is super impressive. First off, their virtual server includes RAID SSD hard drives, which appear to be the only offer of this kind out there on the market. Plus you’re given plenty of memory options and appropriate transfer options.
Offering 55 second sever deployment and tier 1 network they also have Kernel-based virtual machines. This solution is mostly used for high-level virtualisation that makes Linux servers run faster and with more security.
DigitalOcean wins lots of additional points for providing hardware details. They contain Hex Core racks, dedicated ECC RAM and the RAID SSD is impressive.
All virtual servers in your cloud will have at least 20GB storage with SSD. The biggest server has 960GB.
All servers in your cloud can have a range of between 1 – 24 vCores which is an awesome range to be able to pick from.
Varying plans have between 1-10TB free and it is 2¢ for every additional GB. Both public and internal traffic is run at 1GB a second
The cheapest option offers 512MB. The most expensive, however, gives you access to 96GB of RAM which is a whopping number indeed!
DigitalOcean has its own bespoke control panel with all the features required rolled in. You’re able to give it a go on a free trial.
DigitalOcean doesn’t supply a lot of information but it’s probably Linux based distributions like Ubuntu, Fedora, CentOS and Debian.
Not bad for newbies
DigitalOcean has a unique approach to their customer support. They don’t advertise any phone numbers but you can contact them easily via either live chat or email ticketing. The customer reviews online seem to say that it’s rare anyone has a major issue that they need to contact them for as their clouds run so well.
Technically social media is another way of getting hold of DigitalOcean as they’re quite active online, especially so on Twitter.
The support extras that you get from DigitalOcean are impressive. They offer a blog, a forum and have a huge library of articles and tutorials found under the DigitalOcean Community. This is convenient for the average Joe who is new to cloud hosting and trying out this service.
- Blog and forum
- Impressive knowledge centre
- Active social media (Twitter and Facebook)
- Live chat
- No telephone numbers
- Uncertain about support times
- No information about money-back promises, trial or cancellation periods and termination policy
Fair. Cost-effective. Amazing.
DigitalOcean has some great price points along with its pricing system. They offer the 2 most common pricing systems, hourly and monthly. DigitalOcean has very cost-effective and competitive prices for their hourly charges which means you won’t pay much more than the monthly price even if your cloud works for most of that time.
It’d be difficult to find another cloud hosting offer with SSD drive and 512MB for just $5 per month. This makes DigitalOcean outstanding for cloud starters. You can deploy a lot of servers and it doesn’t cost the earth. The prices for the additional services are awesome; 2¢ per GB for extra traffic is a wonderful offer!
Note: DigitalOcean has ten plans for cloud hosting. It’s best to visit the website directly to compare the pricing information.
Custom Panel and Lots of Bonuses
DigitalOcean does its utmost to ensure their clouds are user-friendly. Server management is done using their bespoke control panel that has an intuitive interface and a lot of useful tools. You only need to click a couple of times to resize, create a server or snapshot, for example. They don’t, however, offer a mobile app, which is quite a disadvantage these days.
DigitalOcean’s website is done well. It only takes a few clicks to get all the information you need and to sign up. You can trial the control panel for free once you register on their site.
- Intuitive website navigation
- User-friendly control panel
- Multiple cloud server plan
- Handy management tools
DigitalOcean isn’t totally perfect as there are a couple of minor disadvantages. They do have a wonderful cloud hosting features, great pricing, great additional features, a very full knowledge library, and bespoke control panel and this only covers a handful of the advantages. These might change over time as they accrue more clients and they become infeasible to offer in larger volumes.
- Flexible API and KVM
- Tier 1 network
- RAID SSD with every rack
- Cost-effective pricing
- Easy to navigate control panel
- No mobile app
- Only public cloud
- Unclear support features
- Only provide 1 IP
- The server can sometimes be quite slow
